Hair Transplantation Cost
Hair transplantation is one of the breakthroughs in Cosmetic surgery that restores lost hair on the head. The procedure involves moving hair follicles from one region of the hair, the donor one, to the balding region on the head. The transplantation is a temporary solution to treating baldness on males.
The hair follicles are moved in grafts that are resistance to balding which are placed on the balding region bringing back a full hair look. A hair transplant needs a highly experienced cosmetic surgeon to be successfully done. A well done transplant is hard to tell and even your hair dresser won’t notice. But then, it all depends on the clinic and surgeon you go for.
The best thing about modern day transplants is that the procedures are natural and don’t use too much artificial details. The hair follicles are moved in their natural form from the donor site to the receded area. Today’s hair transplants are done in two ways’; strip harvesting and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
In strip harvesting the head scalp is removed in a strip after anesthesia has been administered to the patient; the cut part is stitched together. The tissue strip cut from the scalp normally has hair and it gets cut down to grafts which are then implanted on the bald region. A scar normally develops on the cut region but the surgeons are careful to conceal it especially if the patient has long hair. If not the scar will eventually be concealed when the donor region grows back hair.
On the other hand, Follicular Unit Extraction involves extraction of single follicle bits under anesthesia. The extractions are normally 0.6 to 1.25 millimeters in width. The single follicles will then be planted onto the balding area and left to grow. The best thing about this procedure is that the scars are smaller and inconspicuous compared to strip harvesting. This process also has a smaller recovery period of a week compared to strip harvesting which takes 2 weeks to heal.
Are there any side effects to hair transplanting? Most certainly, one of the common effects is shock loss which is hair thinning in definition. Bare patches will also be left in the regions where the follicle was extracted after the surgery. But you don’t have to worry about the two outcomes since they are only temporary. The surgery also involves incisions which mean painful wounds will be left to heal. These can be taken care of by taking through pain relieving medication prescribed by the doctor.
Though hair transplant solves the problem of hair loss, it does so in a temporary basis. After several years hair loss will occur again and this will mean you go for another grafting upon your choice. But this has the disadvantage of creating more scalp scats where the old ones were and it won’t look great in case you lose all hair eventually. Hair transplant only makes you look good for a few more years before you start losing it again. Perhaps you can try a bald shave once you start losing hair again; after all it’s a new trend nowadays with the likes of Boris Kodjo and Steve Harvey.
